Engineering Experience - Sale event
10 September 2013
The LEAP into Engineering team from La Trobe University provided an Experience Engineering day at Sale College for 120 Year 9 and 10 students from East and South Gippsland schools.
The LEAP team provided information on the diverse range of engineering career opportunities available while providing enjoyable practical hands on workshops in automotive, electronic, mechatronic and software engineering. Attending teachers commented very positively on the quality of the activities noting that connections were clearly drawn between higher education and engineering careers and the activities the students undertook.
The activities presented included the ever popular Curiosity Bot Roving; Automotive Crash Test, where teams of students compete to design the best crumble zone for their test vehicle from every day materials; and tablet Games App Development, where students participate in the creation of a tablet games app. To round off the day the staff from La Trobe University brought along some of their interactive robots designed by students and staff at the university providing a robot golf challenge, and robot team laser tag.
Students attended from: Catholic College Sale, Gippsland Grammar, Maffra Secondary College, Yarram Secondary College.
"I learned about the skills required if you choose to undertake an engineering field."
"Engineering isn't just building things."
"Engineering required much creativity and I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would."
