About the Workshop

In this workshop at the Bendigo Art Gallery, your students will enjoy a free viewing of the exhibition The Costume Designer: Edith Head and Hollywood and then participate in a Costume Design workshop with renowned Fashion Illustrator, Angie Rehe.

Angie will lead students in designing a character-based outfit and then illustrating it onto a fashion figure in an expressive and creative manner. These lively illustrations will be underpinned by fundamental Fashion Illustration instruction and observation of exciting images from the world of Fashion Illustration and design.

About the exhibition and artist

With a Hollywood career spanning 50 years, Edith Head is considered the most significant costume designer in film history, receiving eight Academy Awards, the largest number ever by a woman.

Head worked closely with many of Hollywood’s brightest stars on close to a thousand films – first at Paramount Pictures and later at Universal Studios – including among those she ‘dressed’, Dorothy Lamour, Mae West, Barbara Stanwyck and Veronica Lake.

The Costume Designer: Edith Head and Hollywood brings together more than 70 costumes designed by Head from the 1930s to the 1960s alongside costume design, film, images and an Academy Award, providing stimulating viewing for students.

The exhibition is on display 29 September 2017 to 21January 2018 at the Bendigo Art Gallery 42 View Street, Bendigo.

Applications close 15 October 2017
